New regulations about switchboards – you should know.
From July 1st new regulations regarding switchboards come into force. All new switchboards and switchboard upgrades will require safety switch (RCD) protection on EVERY circuit, NO EXCEPTIONS.
So what does that mean to you, the consumer? Well, up until now we only had to put safety switch protection on light and power circuits, not hard-wired appliance such as Hot Water Services, ovens, induction hot plates and air conditioners. All that will now change. If you have a new or fairly new appliance such as a wall oven, then you shouldn’t have any problems, however if you have an old oven it may quite well trip the safety switch (they’re very sensitive) and the appliance will require repair or replacement. Other appliances may cause nuisance tripping.
So why is this being done? Most cases of electric shock / electrocution have occurred with contact to unprotected circuits. This will SIGNIFICANTLY reduce those cases.
SAFETY SWITCHES SAVE LIVES! WE RECOMMEND INSTALLATION OF SAFETY SWITCHES IN ALL SWITCHBOARDS!
